Job Summary

This is a Senior Mechanical Engineer Contract role focused on the design, development, testing, and documentation of complex electro-pneumatic and electromechanical medical devices. The position requires serving as a technical leader, solving challenging engineering problems, developing prototypes, validating designs, and mentoring junior engineers while collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of electro-pneumatic, mechanical, and electromechanical systems.
  • Create conceptual and detailed designs using SolidWorks and other MCAD tools.
  • Develop prototypes through internal manufacturing and external suppliers.
  • Define design objectives, contribute to specifications, and prepare engineering documentation.
  • Test and validate products against performance, environmental, regulatory, and safety requirements.
  • Review and improve product specifications and design documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership, project coordination, training, and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Support small to medium-sized projects as a Lead Engineer or Project Leader.

Required Skills & Expertise

  • Advanced mechanical design and product development experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM&A).
  • Expertise with SolidWorks CAD and MCAD/CAE tools.
  • Experience designing components using:
    • Injection molding
    • Plastic extrusion
    • Castings
    • Sheet metal
    • Metal stampings
    • Machined components
    • Additive manufacturing
  • Understanding of GD&T, dimensioning and tolerancing, testing, measurement systems, and statistical data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, mathematical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and meet project schedules.

Regulatory & Technical Knowledge

  • Familiarity with FDA, IEC, and UL standards for medical devices/electronic equipment.
  • Experience with electronic document control systems in regulated environments.
  • Knowledge of thermal, structural, and vibration analysis.
  • Ability to operate engineering test equipment, including pressure/flow instruments, environmental chambers, oscilloscopes, DVMs, and data acquisition systems.
  • Familiarity with machine shop equipment such as lathes, mills, drill presses, brakes, and shears.

Minimum Qualifications

  • BSME or MSME (Mechanical Engineering).
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical/product development, particularly electro-pneumatic assemblies.
  • Experience leading technical sub-projects and engineering activities.
  • Advanced SolidWorks proficiency strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Windows, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Preferred experience with Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project, database management systems, and advanced MCAD/CAE software.

Ideal Candidate Profile

An experienced mechanical engineer with a strong background in medical device product development, electro-pneumatic system design, SolidWorks-based engineering, and technical leadership, capable of taking products from concept through validation while ensuring compliance with regulatory and manufacturing requirements.
